Artist Profile
Realistic, Wildlife and Landscape artist Jim Utsler lives in Choteau, Montana; a small, picturesque town near the windy eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Much of his work is inspired by arduous hikes through the wild mountain splendor. The jagged Rockies represent a large portion of Jim's original art work, but he draws from all aspects of life to create his art, also depicting scenes and wildlife of the open plains and green foothills leading to the mountains. Jim draws on 39 years of art experience to paint realistic visual adventures -- everything from the power of a looming grizzly bear overlooking its domain to the excitement of ruffed grouse flushing in an aspen grove. In order to represent the subjects in fine detail with the respect they deserve, he studies the many reference photographs he has taken on his hikes and during long drives through the untamed back roads of Montana. Working in oil, acrylic and pencil, Jim strives to capture the realism of light and color in both his wildlife and scenic art. In turn, he provides us with original art work rich with warmth and charisma, whether they be of tiny wildflowers, the smallest of animals or the immensity of Montana's majestic Rocky Mountains.
